"Taking Forever?!"

The Beauty and Purpose in Waiting on God

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Waiting on God isn’t easy. It can feel like standing still while the world moves around you. You pray, you hope, you believe — but nothing seems to happen. And yet, God’s silence doesn’t mean He’s absent. Often, His greatest work happens in the wait.

Why does God make us wait?

  1. To Strengthen Our Faith
In seasons of waiting, God is building spiritual muscle. He’s teaching us how to trust when we can’t trace Him, to believe when we can’t see the outcome. Waiting deepens faith in ways that quick answers never could.

  2. To Humble Us and Shift Control
Waiting reminds us that we are not in control — God is. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) In the waiting, pride is stripped away, and dependency on God is formed.

  3. Because He’s Working Behind the Scenes
Look at Joseph. God gave him a dream, but it took years — betrayal, prison, struggle — before that dream became reality (Genesis 37–50). God was aligning people, places, and timing so that the promise would not just happen, but happen with purpose.

  4. For Our Protection
Sometimes, the wait is mercy. What we think we’re ready for, God knows would overwhelm us. In Exodus 23:29-30, God told Israel He wouldn’t give them the land all at once because they couldn’t manage it yet. He knows what we’re ready for — and what we’re not.

The Wait Is Not Wasted
If you’re in a waiting season, know this: God is working. Every moment of silence, every unanswered prayer, every “not yet” is part of His bigger plan. And when His timing comes, it will make sense.

Stay faithful. Keep praying. Keep preparing. The wait is part of the blessing — and when the breakthrough arrives, it will be more than you ever imagined.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You in the waiting. Strengthen my faith, humble my heart, and remind me that Your timing is perfect. Prepare me for the blessing You have ahead, and give me peace in knowing that You are always working behind the scenes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
