With Art, There’s No Right or Wrong — Just You
One of the most freeing things about art is this: there’s no rulebook. No scorecard. No one standing over your shoulder saying, You’re doing it wrong.
Art is one of the few places where you can completely let go of perfection. It’s about expression, not approval. Some of the most powerful pieces in the world aren’t “perfect” — they’re messy, raw, loud, simple, strange. And that’s what makes them unforgettable.
We get caught up sometimes, thinking art has to look a certain way or follow certain techniques. But creativity doesn’t care about neat lines or color theory. It cares about honesty. About taking what’s inside — thoughts, feelings, energy — and getting it out into the world in a way that feels real.
What speaks to one person might not move someone else, and that’s the beauty of it. Art is personal. It’s subjective. It doesn’t need to be explained or justified. You don’t have to fit into a box, follow a trend, or get validation.
Some of the most famous artists — like Basquiat, Pollock, or even Picasso — broke rules on purpose. They scribbled, splattered, distorted, and challenged tradition. And by doing so, they made space for the rest of us to do the same.
So whether you’re painting, sketching, writing, dancing, or simply doodling in a notebook — don’t worry about doing it “right.” The only right way is your way.
Art isn’t about being correct. It’s about being true.
